Rock Chick Revenge, the fifth book in Kristen Ashley’s best selling Rock Chick series tells us the story of Ava and Luke. Luke’s story was the one that I was really looking forward to when I was first introduced to him in Rock Chick, Lee and Indy’s story.
Ava Barlow is a changed woman who five years ago was a little overweight, wore glasses and had mousy brown hair. Now She’s shed the pounds, got contacts and goes to a professional for her hair. But thats not all that has changed. Ava doesn’t think much of men and has reason to. She has vowed to never get involved with another man again but thats before her best friend, Sissy needs her. In comes Luke Stark, Ava’s childhood crush. They haven’t seen each other in five years, not since before Ava shed the pounds after some nasty comments from her sisters regarding Luke and herself. With Ava deciding to exact revenge on her best friends lying, cheating husband she needs Luke who is now a private investigator. Ava goes to enlist Luke in her plan but changes her mood at the last minute but its too late. Luke knows she’s up to something and he’s already seen the Rock Chicks try to fight their own battles without the hot bunch stepping in. He’s having none of it and she’s having none of him. Once again we are treated to the clash of the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch courtship.
Technically, like many of Kristen Ashley’s books, Rock Chick Revenge can be read as a stand alone however, certain characters and references will be missed due to this book being a continuation of a series with characters being so interlinked. Therefore I recommend that you read the entire series to get the full effect of the book.
It was nice to get a book where the characters have a history and haven’t just met and fell in love. Ava has always been in love with Luke but Luke never saw Ava that way. He saw her as a friend. When Luke sees Ava after five years he does not recognise her as she has changed. When he realises who he is there is no stopping him.
I loved Luke. He was patient with Ava and accepting of the lingering issues that she had caused by her excess weight when she was younger and her sisters viciousness. However, Ava was another of Kristen Ashley’s Heroins that tried my patience. Her good Ava, bad Ava, conflicting voices drove me crazy. Does anyone think like that, well in those terms anyway?
Luke is my favourite Hot Bunch guy (well tied with Lee) but there was one thing that I could not get over, the moustache. I couldn’t get on the bandwagon where the moustache was concerned. It was described as being hot on him but would look stupid on other men. I couldn’t help but think that it was stupid. I had to pretend that it wasn’t there and give him entire different facial hair.
Rock Chick Revenge is my favourite book so far in the Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick Series. Once again we are treated to the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch guys with a few additions, namely Ren. Ren is introduced to us so that his story can be established for his turn around. We are given laugh out loud moments, soft moments, intermingled with the action.
Rock Chick Revenge is being given a 4* rating. It didn’t quite reach a 5* rating because of the annoyance of Ava and the dreaded moustache.
